What is Strangers2?
Strangers2 is an international script writing and performance project involving collaboration between young people and professional artists from Wales, New Zealand (Nelson), Australia and Hong Kong. Using multi-media and communications technology, young people will connect on a global scale to explore their cultural landscapes, celebrating diversity through theatre. The project is led by Mess Up The Mess Theatre Company LTD in Wales with delivery partnerships with Australian Theatre for Young People (atyp), Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts and Inspired Productions New Zealand.
Overriding theme: From 1 to infinity is a circle: everything to nothing to everything in a cycle. Everything in the universe and me is one. Everything goes back to one thing. We all put dead bodies in the ground. Dust to dust, ashes to ashes. The ecology of the world.
Each project team must take on the following creative tasks/provocations’ in response to the agreed central theme:
- Music-Creation of a piece of original contemporary music inspired by own countries musical landscape/heritage
- Character-Creation and development of characters physically and in writing (led by responding to tasks/exercises set and collated by Dafydd James)
- A poem- poems will be developed in response to the project themes however one central poem will be developed consequences style with each team building on to the team before verse. Order in table at end of document.
- Film-Creation of an original film in response to project themes. Additional task has been suggested by NZ featuring green-screen so we can feature youth from all teams in a film together.
- Objects-Identification of 2 objects which you will use as a stimulus for action
- Movement-A physical theatre/movement sequence in response to project themes
- Collective collaborative writing as led and shaped by Welsh writer/Dramaturg Dafydd James through on-going creative tasks this will begin in earnest following the completion of most of the creative tasks by each team.
- Mounting the production: This will not begin until after Easter 2011 but will see us all staging the completed script.

Prosiect ysgrifennu sgript a pherfformio yw Strangers2 sy’n cynnwys cydweithredu rhwng pobl ifanc ac artistiaid proffesiynol o Gymru, Seland Newydd (Nelson), Awstralia a Hong Kong. Gan ddefnyddio amlgyfryngau a thechnoleg gyfathrebu, bydd y bobl ifanc yn cysylltu â’i gilydd ar raddfa fyd-eang er mwyn archwilio’u tirweddau diwylliannol a dathlu amrywiaeth drwy theatr. Arweinir y prosiect gan Gwmni Theatr Mess Up The Mess Cyf yng Nghymru ar y cyd â’r partneriaethau cyflwyno, Theatre for Young People (atyp) Awstralia, Academy of Performing Arts Hong Kong ac Inspired Productions Seland Newydd.
Y Brif Thema: Mae 1 i anfeidredd yn gylch: popeth i ddim i bopeth mewn cylchred. Mae popeth yn y bydysawd, a minnau, yn un. Mae popeth yn mynd yn ôl i’r un peth. Mae pawb yn rhoi cyrff meirw yn y ddaear. Lludw i’r lludw, pridd i’r pridd. Ecoleg y byd.
Mae’n rhaid i bob tîm prosiect dderbyn y tasgau/profociadau creadigol canlynol mewn ymateb i’r thema ganolog gytunedig:
- Cerddoriaeth - Creu darn o gerddoriaeth gyfoes, wreiddiol wedi’i hysbrydoli gan dirwedd/treftadaeth gerddorol eu gwlad eu hun.
- Cymeriad – Creu a datblygu cymeriadau yn gorfforol ac mewn ysgrifen (mewn ymateb i dasgau/ymarferion a gânt eu gosod a’u coladu gan Dafydd James)
- Cerdd - Caiff cerddi eu datblygu mewn ymateb i themâu’r prosiect, ond bydd un gerdd ganolog yn cael ei datblygu yn arddull stori gron gyda phob tîm yn adeiladu ar bennill y tîm blaenorol. Gweler y drefn ar ddiwedd y ddogfen.
- Ffilm - Creu ffilm wreiddiol mewn ymateb i themâu’r prosiect. Awgrymwyd tasg ychwanegol gan SN yn seiliedig ar sgrin werdd fel y gallwn gynnwys pobl ifanc o bob tîm mewn ffilm gyda’i gilydd.
- Gwrthrychau - Clustnodi 2 wrthrych y byddwch yn eu defnyddio i ysgogi gweithrediad
- Symudiad - Dilyniant o symudiad / theatr gorfforol mewn ymateb i themâu’r prosiect.
- Ysgrifennu ar y cyd cyfunol – Caiff hwn ei arwain a’i siapio gan yr ysgrifennwr/dramodydd Cymraeg, Dafydd James, trwy dasgau creadigol parhaus. Bydd hyn yn dechrau o ddifrif ar ôl i bob tîm gwblhau’r rhan fwyaf o’r tasgau creadigol.
- Llwyfannu’r cynhyrchiad - Ni fydd hyn yn dechrau tan ar ôl Pasg 2011 ond bydd pob un ohonom yn cyflwyno’r sgript orffenedig ar y llwyfan.
