The Royal Absurdity Show – A cabaret the Mess Up way

The Royal Absurdity Show – A Cabaret???

Performed December 2023.

The young people and Mess Up The Mess developed a performance for their Winter show. Filled with laughter, joy, festivities, silliness, and creativity.

The process started off with asking to the young people what is a Cabaret – the response back was better and more unexpected than we imagined.

“It sounds like a French festival… no a fancy bread festival”

“ Do you mean a CARB…Baret?!”

“It sounds like the largest rodent in South America”

“No that’s a Capybara?”

From there the ideas started to flow from the young people.  Which included bad magic acts, Bread puns (or should we say bread buns), stand up, a candy cane beard fairy, songs, musical theatre numbers, a carol singing cow, Shakespeare that goes wrong, a frog stuck in a tree, a capybara and so much more. The new compare of the show went through his journey, hoping for the most perfect show ever, only to be sabotaged by his own father disguised as the caretaker. The compare realised it isn’t always about perfection but the fun and the friends you have along the way. This finishing the show with a finale song from the muppets “lifes a happy song”.

This show was a celebration of the young people’s imagination, creativity and talent, that was developed and proudly put on stage. The young people’s vision was truly listened to and creating a family friendly, joyful piece of theatre.

Actor Christian Patterson said “I really REALLY enjoyed the show yesterday…I laughed from beginning to end and it was a joy to watch such brilliantly talented young performers! Huge congratulations to one & all!”
